56% Of Businesses In Breach Of Waste Regulations

The waste industry has joined together in order to raise awareness of businesses bligations to ensure their waste is disposed of responsibly after research has shown that 56% of UK firms ar in breach of the law.

Since 1990 duty of care legislation has covered anyone dealing with waste, including producers, carriers, dealers and brokers.

After a survey found that 94% of non-compliant organisations were SMEs, the 'Right Waste, Right Place" campaign has been launched to assist smaller businesses to comply with their obligations.

Defra figures reveal that incidents of fly tipping numbered 900,000 in 2014/15, an 11% increase on the previous year, and cost local authorities at least £50m to clean up.
